The Age of Photography
The First Camera was immensely important to the world. it began the age of photography that has led to an entire art form that is used every day, if not for a scientist who had the crazy idea of creating a protection or photo, we would not have the everyday commodity that rules the modern age.
The First Permanent Images (Daguerreotype, Emulsion Plates, Dry Plates) were important because the camera was almost useless up to that point because you could only project it onto a wall, but being able to have a picture that you can have all the time, even though it is expensive was a revolutionary development and further change the world .
Camera For Everyone was important as people could now have a camera with them whenever they wanted and did not have to be rich to be able to have one, this set forth the motion of the modern camera and was a way of bringing the camera to all homes across the world.
The Horrors of War were important because it brought perspective to people around the world who could now see what their fighting can cause, people could look at the carnage and destruction that war can bring and it brought on a slight change in the way normal people saw war.
The Wonder of Instant Images was important because it was fairly inexpensive and you did not have to wait for them to be developed at the factory, you could now take a picture whenever you'd like, wherever you'd like, this pushed cameras to the forefront of modern technology and life.
Advanced Image Control was important because it was the start of the now modern camera, with interchangeable lenses and accessories, it was making it more and more simple to own and take pictures at home.
Introducing Smart Cameras was important because it was what is now the camera in your smartphones, laptops, and other pieces of technology, this was immensely important to society and has forged what is now the most common type of camera.
The Digital Age was important because now not only could we take a picture on our smartphone but we could keep it digitally on our smartphone, in apple products there is an app committed to photos (not only apple just an example) this makes it so you can have thousands of pictures on your phone, and you can take them in an instant.
Though not everybody would agree, I want to argue that the digital age is the most significant step in the evolution of the camera.
I have several reasons for arguing this point of view:
My first reason is that people use their smartphones every day with apps like snapchat, instagram, taking photos has never been easier.
A further reason is it is an important part of today's culture and society as we have built everything around the ability to share, take, and edit photos right at the tip of our fingers, people take thousands of photos a day and the ability to show, and share these images on websites and social media is huge to today's youth.
Furthermore our everyday life is influenced by photography, although some people use it in an inappropriate or obscene way, that does not do anything except add to the importance of the digital camera that is in every smartphone across the world, with one touch of a screen you can send a photo to every corner of the world and even to space! no youth could imagine life without a digital camera and everything that comes with it.
Therefore, although some people might argue that the advanced image control was crucial to the shaping of the modern age I have shown that although it was important to what we now call a social norm, it's impact does not even compare to the current and future importance of the digital camera and the age of technology that we live in today, and i'm sure that when all these men/women were developing the camera, they had no idea the impact it would later have, no matter how good or bad the digital camera, and storage of pictures has or can be, it has shaped a whole generation and set said generation apart from all others, not in terms of influence or progress, but has set this generation apart as being the generation of cameras as they are more advanced than ever before.
