depth of field

Depth of Field is how sharp the objects that are farthest away versus the objects that are closest to the camera. If you have a shallow depth that means the things close will be in focus but the objects farther away will be blurry and not in focus, while with a deep depth of field everything will be in as best focus that they can be.
